d day - 2
and the familiar cry rings through the house - "why do i have all this _crap_?".
but it is all out of the kitchen now, and in boxes and bags and piles in the living room. it looks so odd to see the kitchen so empty - i cleared off the refrigerator yesterday, and everytime i see all that open space, it throws me...and now the whole room is like that.
angelina left me to my own devices today - she was in determined pursuit of birds. she makes the funniest noises when she's watching them - chattering her teeth, and doing this sort of stuttering meow - don't know whether she's trying to intimidate them, or just expressing her frustration - probably both.
anyway, some 'before' pictures. for some reason, i can't seem to do these as thumbnails - so they are here (i hope)
(ok, i see the whole thing, but i hope other people have a cut - if not, sorry to those with slow connections. i swear i did this right once).

the bathroom. the thing fred is standing on will stay, but the cabinet will be refaced, and there will be a new countertop, sink and hardware.
sink side of the kitchen. the paneling will stay - it's a sort of motif throughout the place - and the shelves and lightbox over the sink, but the counters will all be refaced, new drawers, doors and hardware, new sink, faucets, new dishwasher (and a new disposal, even). the new cabinets will be antique white - about the color of the floor (at least, the clean parts of the floor), the counter will be dark blue, and the appliances will be white. because of all the wood in the walls, i thought wood cabinets looked a bit odd (the paneling is rough, and the cabinets would be polished) - and white just seemed too intense. so hopefully the antique white will work.

stove

and the hood. the hood will be replaced by a microwave/vent, the stove with a gas stove - and of course new counter and cabinet facings. the fridge is only a couple of years old, so it gets to stay. the stove and dishwasher are original - so 30 years old. poor things, they are ready to go - i haven't used the dishwasher in a couple of years, after it started making this horrible noise, and i've been having problems with the stove burners not coming on - i've already had to have some work done on it too keep it going.
poor fred was just exhausted by all my work -

that huge stack of stuff behind him is (most of) what was in the kitchen...i swear the stuff must be multiplying, there's no way all that was in that little tiny kitchen. and i even threw away a bunch of stuff, and started a bag of stuff to donate...
there are occasional moments of amusement. found this in one of the drawers - not sure what it went to.
