beware the evil that is the 99-cent store.

a friend told me that the local one had lion brand suede yarn (at $0.99/skein, of course).  now, i need more yarn like i need a hole in the head, but she mentioned they had a lot of a color called 'spice', and i've been working on this afghan, and it has become clear that i will have yarn left over, so i was going to make a sweater with some stripes, and i needed something for a base color, and this sounded like it might work, so i decided to investigate....

and the spice is just the perfect color, so i got 8 skeins...and $20 worth of other stuff, none of which i was aware i needed.  (i now have a miniature light saber, with which to intimidate the cats) (or that was the plan, anyway, when i threatened fred with it, he started chewing on it).  i must say - they have the most remarkable assortment of things...how _have_ i managed without a giant match-shaped lighter and pineapple salad vinegar?

but then i knitted up a test swatch, and the suede yarn seems oddly un-stretchy, so i think not suitable for a sweater, but it would make a really cool jacket, although 8 skeins is not enough for a jacket (i want a thigh-length one)....so i guess tomorrow i will need to brave the place again....

.....and i _still_ need to find a base color for the sweater.
