which is a bit of a disappointment - i had hoped to be much less - but it's 25 pounds i probably wouldn't have lost if i hadn't joined weight watchersw - so it's a good thing.
part of my disappointment is that i am up a couple of pounds this week - i had expected to be down, as i was trying to set a good example for my brother, and we did a lot of walking all over san diego. but i probably wasn't drinking enough water, and i definitely wasn't drinking enough milk, and i wasn't tracking what i ate. so, back to basics - breakfast is a whole-wheat waffle with fat-free cream cheese and pureed persimmon, and cafe au lait, made with non-fat milk. and i have written it all down, even the coffee...turns out if you drink enough coffee, it does count as half a point. *sigh*
i had a really good visit with my brother, and it was good to have him in my own home for christmas. i've always gone somewhere else for christmas, and it was nice to be in my house, doing a little decorating - lights on the mantle piece, and christmas cards pinned up, and a little tree and a wreath on the door - goofy, but fun. and the last little bit of my family - ok, i have cousins, but i'm not real close to them. funny how much i enjoy just hanging out and talking to him, considering how much we fought as children. thinking back, he was always a pretty good guy - it seems i have matured enough to really appreciate it
and it's always great to have visitors - it gets you out to all the places around town that are really neat, but that somehow you rarely get yourself out to. we hit the zoo, the wild animal park, balboa park (and the aerospace museum), torrey pines park, and the midway museum. i probably wouldn't have gone to the midway on my own - it's an aircraft carrier that went into service right after wwii, and was retired and made into a museum a few years ago. but it's pretty cool, and i think well set up. they have a self-guided audio tour. i've done these in the past, where you have a tape player, which means you have to go through the exhibit in the correct order, and sometimes you have to be pretty quick to pick out what they are talking about while they are talking about it. but on the midway, they give you this hand-held electronic devise with a keypad. each exhibit or section that is on the tour has a numbered sign, you punch the number into the hand-held, and it tells you about that exhibit. so you can go in any order you like, skip over things if you want, spend time if you want - very nice. they are still in the process of restoring it, so not all the ship is accessible - just as well, really, i think we spent three hours there as it was, and we didn't exactly linger. we also got a small taste of what it might have been like at sea - very stiff wind, with whitecaps on the bay. one of the docents estimated the wind at 14 knots - then told us they needed 30 knots for plane operations. one wonders how they managed to keep any of the crew on deck...
well, off to plan a nice lean new year's - happy happy to all!
