...after all, this is "mouse_rants", and i'm certainly on enough about them elsewhere.

well, of course i am pleased.  pleased that there is finally at least the potential of some sort of brake on the current out-of-control administration, _really_ pleased that rumsfeld has been shown the door (although the president still feels he did a great job, and is still mouthing the same rhetoric and trying to sell the same fears.  note to the ignorant:  iraq is majority shiite.  al qaeda is fundamentalist sunni.  shiite <> sunni.  in fact, a great deal of the violence in iraq now is sunnis and shias blowing each other up.  therefore, very little likelihood that iraq will become al qaeda's new seat of power.  particularly since the taliban is busy retaking their _old_ seat of power, in afghanistan, and bin laden still seems to be in that part of the world.)

not totally giddy - my ethically challenged carpetbagger republican congressman is still in place;  his energetic democratic challenger got even a smaller percentage than she did in the special election - despite the fact that the now incumbent has done nothing but pursue his own agenda in congress, based his campaign solely on a harsh stand on immigration (which actually seemed to be costing people seats elsewhere), and ducked out of almost every invitation to debate or otherwise show himself to the voters.  he didn't even bother to have his victory party in the district - so much for being in touch with his constituents.  apparently, he is under investigation by a grand jury for claiming all three of his houses as his primary residence (one of them is in virginia).  so maybe he will be out again soon - but apparently this district would elect satan himself, if he ran on the republican ticket.  well, at least a new guy wouldn't have all his lobbyist connections in place from day one, he might be willing to at least pretend an interest in what his constituents want.

well, that got really depressing.  really, i am ecstatic that the democrats have both the house and the senate now.  excited to see what nancy pelosi does.  looking forward to some investigations, and a halt to some of the more obnoxious legislation that the white house has been trying to push.

and hoping we really won't have to wait two whole years to start turning things around.
