'cause it seems like all i want to do is start stuff.

i started a sunday market shawl two weeks ago, because it was a beautiful day and i wanted to knit outside and i was at the end of my bitterroot shawl and doing the beading, and i could see how that might not be a good thing to do outside.  after i finished the bitterroot i cast on the next shawl in my queue, the thordis (without finishing the market).  the thordis is a triangular shawl, you cast on at the outside edge and work inward.  which means you cast on 339 st.  which means a row takes about 1/2 hour to knit.  now, i wanted to have a whole variety of shawls, and shawl constructions....but i find myself getting bored.  when i bought some more crochet hooks to do the beading, i also (despite my best intentions) bought some yarn, including a couple skeins of japanese yarn in beautiful turquoise and green and (just peeking out from the center) some brilliant red, and i _really_ want to cast that on (i'm thinking clapotis), but then i woke up this morning thinking of a goofy jacket i was working on last fall, which i should really finish while the weather is still cool....and i should finish the market shawl, to see if i really like the dropped-stitch thing before i commit to it on a clapotis.....

today would be a really good day to finish things - there are brief bits of sun, alternating with pouring rain.  got literally soaked to the skin walking home from my WW meeting this morning - despite wearing a raincoat (with hood) zipped up to my chin - the coat was soaked through, my t-shirt was soaked through (and soggy enough i changed when i got home) - my shorts were so soaked my underwear was wet.  so not enthused to go out and do the weekly shopping - and my bank account is circling zero and i'm just hoping my paycheck gets deposited tomorrow (sometimes they put it in early, although they don't have to pay me till monday), so that's another reason to stay in.

the rain was so impressive i had to go back out and take a picture:

it had actually slacked off a bit from the peak - when i came home, the water was rushing down the gutter so fast, there was a rooster-tail by the car tires;  it roared down the storm drains like a waterful - kinda cool, actually.  my brave girl (who _hates_ the rain) came out to make sure i got back safe from my picture-taking.

i had to commemorate her courage.

so instead i 1) blocked out my not-quite-so-many-yards of heaven; 2) cooked a pot of rice and millet to make into kayu bread (never even eaten the stuff, we'll see how it goes; and 3) made a batch of citrus aspic with honey and mint (which i'm hoping will cheer me through the grey).  and ...._what_ time is it now?
