pickle me, tink!
Jul. 22nd, 2007 10:00 pmwell, maybe not.
so: in addition to yesterday's efforts, i now have 2 pints of dilled carrots, 3 pints (almost) of spiced brandied cherries, 4 roasted and peeled beets, and fingers of a lovely deep purple color.
{it occurs to me that my compost bucket is getting a more balanced diet than my worms. the worms have only gotten this mornings eggshells to go with the carrot peelings; the compost bucket has gotten the beet skins, as well as the trimmings from tonight's dinner (sweet potato skin, lettuce and tomato bits, the ends of the chard stalks). i'll have to find something tasty for them tomorrow.}
hope (after all that) the pickles actually taste decent. the only ones i sampled were the shaker-style - the others need to sit a while to let the flavor develop. i'm a little concerned about the dilled ones. the recipe called for dill seed, but my local market had only dill _weed_. four different brands of it - but of the seeds, not a husk. well, it's done now - just have to wait and see.
in other news, on saturday i finished (and installed, if one can use so technical a term) my car-seat cover - so far, seems to work great (although it wasn't real hot this weekend - or maybe it worked so well, i didn't notice!). it does leave an interesting pattern on the backs of my legs, but that's preferable to having to peel myself off the seat. so now i need to focus on the shawl - although actually, i think i should switch off between the shawl and the tank top, so i won't forget what i'm doing there.
so a pretty productive weekend - even if the stuff i did wasn't what i should have been doing.
