one of those days....
Jul. 12th, 2006 09:51 amyesterday was one of those really annoying days. it started with the news that one of my neighbor's cats had escaped from her patio monday night, and had not returned - and ended with the news that another neighbor had found him, or what a coyote had left of him. in between was a full day of endless time spent on the phone with irritating people trying to get a couple of very simple things accomplished, and programs that developed phantom errors.
what i wanted to concentrate on was that yesterday marked 1 full year since i brought angelina kitten home. we did have a small celebration - broiled chicken breast, with sauce for me and catnip for them - but it was muted, under the circumstances. they have taken to staying out rather longer after dark than i like, but last night i had them in before it even got dark - oddly, to no complaints. i wonder how much cats do understand of these things. although my neighbor's cat was (theoretically) confined to her patio, my cats had visited through the fence, so i guess they knew him. he was found a considerable distance away, however, and must have been killed early tuesday morning, when mine were both inside. they both followed me over to the neighbor's when i went by after work to offer my sympathies, but the other cat had been buried by then, so there shouldn't have been any way for them to know what happened. but they stayed in last night without any fussing - angelina asleep in the junk basket (this has become her favorite place since she figured out how to get up there a couple days ago), and fred mostly in my lap. funny fred - he was sitting bolt upright, sort of astride one of my legs, but he kept dozing off - he was sitting up so tall, though, i was afraid he was going to fall over backwards. i was thinking about the cat i lost to coyotes last year - i was surprised that anything had been found of my neighbor's cat, it made me wonder if i might have found munch, if i had really hunted - but i'm not sure i could have handled seeing her like that.
