this thought is occasioned by angelina kitten losing her collar, which i find is making me ridiculously sad.    which is silly on many levels.

i've never been a big fan of collars on cats - they are so beautiful, it seems a shame to break their lines with a collar.  i started doing it when i was flying with them;  i figured if they came adrift in the airport, the collar would make them easier to reconnect with (i always put on a tag with my cell number).  but now they are chipped, so she can be identified that way.

the collar was never really appropriate for her anyway - it was pink, with a pink flower. some girls wear pink, others wear red - angelina is definitely a red girl.  the only thing kind of appropriate was the black polka-dots on the collar - it had a sort of punkish effect that fit her.  but i did think my girl looked awful cute, with her pink flower...in the odd sort of way a bow is cute on a hairless baby.  but really, it's just a collar - why should i be so sad about it?  it's not like i don't still have the cat.

still - you can see how adorable she looks, mugging fred in her pink-flower collar:
