all my bags are packed...
May. 21st, 2007 01:09 pmbut i feel less and less ready to go. i seem to be increasingly a home-body as i get older. i like the idea of going other places and seeing other things (yes, even banjo festivals) - but actually _doing_ it.....i long for the days of the world-wide instantaneous transport system, so i can just pop over to australia or the taj majal for the afternoon, and then home to my own bed. isn't this the 21st century already?
just checked the tsa website, and it seems they allow a 1 quart bag for gels and liquids, not a 1 gallon, which is what i think i have - have to remember to measure it this evening. i don't think i've ever seen _quart_ bags - just sandwich bags and the big ones. the people who set up the "travel" section at the drugstore should get on that - i'd be willing to pay a buck for 2 or 3 quart bags, along with the < 3 oz bottles of shampoo and conditioner, sunscreen and aloe vera lotion, the tiny stick of deodorant and the cute little tube of body wash, just so i knew everything would get through security. they say i can take knitting needles and even small scissors on a carry-on, but apparently not even my tiny swiss army knife - guess i'll have to take the little first-aid kit i got in my carry-on, since it has little folding scissors. i was thinking i had everything covered, then yesterday i remembered that i hadn't packed a hairbrush or comb, so now i'm wondering what other totally obvious thing i've forgotten. i'm trying to travel light, just one bag i don't have to check - hope i don't hit an inspector who is sure i can't have nailclippers or something, so i end up having to check the bag because of that.
i am also dealing with guilt over boarding the kittens. they will be together, and it's a nice place, with good-sized cages and play time, and they've been there before, so they will be fine - but i have to check them in the night before i go, and then, since i spaced that monday was memorial day, i will be without them all that day as well :(. but i think 5 days is just a little too long to leave them shut up by themselves - considering the number of things they can knock over in just one evening of chasing each other around the house, i'd be lucky if the place was still standing after they had 5 days of going stir-crazy.
