i'm really more an out-of-control knitter
Apr. 5th, 2008 08:43 pmi'm certainly out of control when it comes to starting and/or planning projects.
several of the women in my weight watcher's group are also knitters, and we generally sit together (knitting) during the meeting. one of them has convinced a couple of us to sign up for sock wars iii. the yarn-of-choice is apparently to be TOFUtsie - so i decided to go ahead an pick some up (it is unclear to me whether or not the yarn will be provided). the SWTC site doesn't show any yarn stores near me that carry the stuff, but i decided to call the two yarn stores in town, to see if maybe they carried it anyway. the first one i called (the more expensive, but easier-to-park-at one) did carry it, so i ran over to get some. walked out the door $162 poorer, with 3 balls of TOFUtsie, one ball of cotton sock yarn, one of bamboo sock yarn, 4 skeins of Noro silk blend (in two different weights), and one other specialty-type yarn, which they wound for me, so the label's in the center of the ball. but see how pretty?:

i had planned to get the TOFUtsie in something bright red (hey, it's for a _war_, right?)...but everything seems to be remarkably purple. well, maybe because i have this right out in front:

what can i say - i love my wisteria. i sat out on the patio to knit for a while this afternoon to enjoy it (and the lovely aroma), until it got too chilly.
don't really know what i'm going to do with the noro - too expensive (and too odd) to get enough to make a top, but the colors are so pretty, so i'm thinking shawls or scarfs. something colorful to wrap around my neck or throw over my shoulder. only problem is, i have a whole raft of other projects in process. in order of probable completion:
1. new car seat cover
2. tabi socks (that i need to finish before the thongs they go with wear out)
3. february's elizabeth zimmerman KAL sweater (that i should really finish before i forget how the pattern goes)
4. the lace tank top i started last summer (currently down the list because it is still too cold to wear it).
5. the tights/leggings that were...september's? EZ KAL - on the back burner because it will be too warm to wear them by the time i finish them.
and then there are two purses and a scarf and a clafouti...that's all i remember being started...plus a few more pairs of socks, and then the cotton yarn that i want to make a tote bag out of, and the cotton yarn i want to make a lace tablecloth out of, and of course the new yarn...and everything will need to be put on hold when sock wars start. i'm almost at the point of hoping i will get 'killed' quickly, so i can get back on my stuff. hopefully, the sock pattern will be fun...i've collected some others i think will be fun with the other sock yarn.
and with all that, the thing i seem to be hot and heavy on is the car seat cover. i made one last summer (turns out when you park a convertible with black seats in the sun with the top down, the seats get really hot....). it is a pretty open pattern made with my largest needles (so it would go quickly), but then i wore a pair of shorts with a metal button on the back pocket, which got caught in the knitting, and pulled a bunch out and i guess broke the yarn, because now there is a big hole. actually, this turns out to be a good thing- when i was measuring for the new one, i realized that there is an airbag in the side of the seat back...so good not to block that. the new one will just be a strip down the center of the back (which is not a concern with getting hot), then widening out to cover the seat. found a nice tight stitch to make it in - reversible, even (at least i think so). when i did the test swatch, i decided i like the back side better:

but now that i'm working on the project, i think i prefer the front:

of course, the _real_ question is, which will look better imprinted on the backs of my thighs, come shorts weather?
and then, with all that to do, i seem to end up spending the evenings playing on the computer - and not even doing the things i should do, like the bills - so best get on that (well, once rome is over...)
