so [livejournal.com profile] xlana mentioned a ravelry group for knitting 10 shawls in 2010.  and i've got a mental list of shawls i want to make, and i've picked up the odd skein or 4 of laceweight yarn (like, when knitpicks has a sale), so i figured i would go for it.  and of course shawls don't _have_ to be of laceweight yarn, and someone mentioned shawls of sockweight yarn, i've got that....

tonight, while dinner was heating, i figured i would start pulling stuff out of my stash, just to get a firmer feel for what i have, and start developing more of a list.

people, i think it's time to admit i have a problem.  the total list of stuff, suitable/intended for shawls:

kit of yarn for Icelandic or Thordis shawl (knitting daily), kit from Sarah's Yarns - hey, i bought it 2 years ago, it qualifies as stash!
1 skein (440 yds) Shadow laceweight, in "posy pink"  - left over from cousin's birthday present
4 skeins (1760 total) Shadow in "redwood forest" (sort of reddish-brown heather)
2 skeins (880 total) plus a tad of Alpaca Cloud laceweight in horizon (light blue) - left over from aunt's birthday present, to be made into the "lily of the valley" shawl in Lace Style - if there's enough.
4 skeins Gossamer laceweight (1760 total) in "Caribbean" (blues and greens)....dare i consider attempting shipwreck with such cheerful seas?
4 skeins Gossamer in "Sweet Peas" (purples/pinks)....this may end up going with some other laceweight, scheduled for a light jacket.
4 skeins Shimmer laceweight (1760 total) in "deep woods" ( a brown/yellow mixture)
4 skeins Shimmer in "Stained Glass" (purple/fuchsia/turquoise, it looks better than it sounds, i hope) - purchased to make stockings, but really - am i going to wear stockings that have to be hand-washed and blocked?
4 skeins Shimmer in "Happy Dance" (reds/oranges/pinks) - hey, this might be the one for the september story/Peace of My Mind shawl from Wrapped in Comfort!  (which is a lovely shawl) - a bit busier than the colors shown, but i seem to have a fair amount of busy shawl yarn.
6 (six? what was i thinking? - 2640 yds!) Shimmer in "Maple Leaf" (bowns/reds/yellows)....well, that should be enough for the Feather and Fan shawl in A Gathering of Lace

...for a total of 33+ skeins of lace-weight yarn.

plus:

9 skeins Getaway in "Rafting" (738 yards) - which is bulky weight, but it's left over from another project, and i have to do _something_ with it - maybe knitty's Colonnade, or maybe the  "Spring Morn" shawl from Stunning Shawls and Wraps (knit with beads) - if i can find some beads that a) fit on the yarn and b) don't look totally hideous.
3 skeins Gedifra "California Color" - 285 m, which just meets the minimum yardage - also left over from a project (W, from Knitty, which could use a light wrap to go with....maybe xlana's market shawl, even if the colors aren't as pretty as her noro).
12 end-of-skeins of various sizes of sock yarn, which will be an entrelac shawl (along with whatever odds and ends of sock yarn i generate over the year)
and 2 giant skeins sugar 'n' cream cotton, white, intended to be crocheted into a giant pineapple doily for a tablecloth (ok, so it may be a stretch including that as a shawl - even if it will be large, round and lacy)

doesn't sound too bad, you say?  this doesn't include a) other laceweight yarn scheduled for other projects (the jacket and a sweater)
b) all the not-yet-knit-yet-so-no-remainders sock yarn (i can't even bring myself to count all that up)
c) the yarn of other weights, intended for other projects and (most definitely)
d) ALL THE WIPS PILED UP ALL OVER THE PLACE.

oh yeah - or the yarn for the every way wrap i've started as my first 10 in 2010 project, or the silk yarn i bought for some sort of neckerchief sort of thing, that i think just might work for swallowtail.

and my other problem?  all that yarn...and i'm just barely coming up with 10 projects.  and i've got all these _other_ shawl patterns i want to make, that don't seem to quite fit the yarn i have (one is a lovely 'print of the wave' pattern that just seems like it ought to be made in blue, and i really want to do one of the shawls in Victorian Lace Today that have proper knitted on-and-all-around edgings, and i want to do shapes beyond rectangular and round - like a really truly faroese shawl!, do i have one of those?  and i want to learn to construct my own triangular symmetrical-around-the-midline shawls, but i figure i need to knit an existing pattern first, to get the feel - do i have one of those?)

not to mention that little teeny tiny problem of WHEN AM I GONNA HAVE THE TIME TO KNIT ALL THIS STUFF?

and on that note, back to the renaissance beret i'm knitting, instead of working on the wrap.  *sigh*
