although i guess the damage is already done, and we need the water...still, you might have been a little gentler.

this is the sight that met me this morning:

i thought i heard a 'thud' last night, but the building didn't shake, so i figured no harm done...but we have lost this lovely little tree.  it came down without damaging my car or the carport - it always struck me as a thoughtful sort of tree.  i am really sad to lose it.  the kittens loved chasing each other up it, and it was just right for the kids to climb (my neighbor's daughter use to have races up it with my old cat).  it was one of those things that one takes for granted, as part of the world around - now i can't even find any pictures of it as it was.  when i called the management company to report it, i expressed hope that it could be saved, but i doubt they will make the effort.  i suspect it was a volunteer, and the placement will now be considered too dangerous to repeat - besides, easier just to cut it up where it is than expend the effort to put it back up.  i will miss it.

my mood was not improved by my shopping (saturday is shopping day).  apparently what people do on rainy days is go to the store and stand around aimlessly in the aisles, equally oblivious to the meanderings of their knee-high children and the efforts of those of us trying to actually shop to move around them.  and i'm talking every single store i was in - from the bookstore to a couple of grocery stores.  i managed to complete my shopping without hitting anyone (intentionally or not), although i failed to locate about a third of the things on my list (hence the multiple grocery stores).  i didn't even try home depot - too wet to do anything with the stuff i need to get, anyway.  i did, however, cruise by a yarn store and buy some yarn (like i need any more) - some bulky wool to make a cat bed for fred (angelina has made it clear that the existing one is _hers_) and some irresistible sock yarn (with sparkley bits) for me - but 1 skein only (it should be plenty).  so now i am also depressed at spending more money.

ah well - i was successful in finding a large glass jar, suitable (i hope) for the sangria recipe i got over christmas.  so the jar is now full (well, half-full - need another jug of wine) of lovely fruit, and there are oxtails in the process of becoming stew and (if i get really desperate) there is milk for hot chocolate.
