happy birthday, fred!

this is fred

he was a stray, so there is no way to know his actual birthday, but when i adopted him in october, the animal control people said he was 8 months old, which meant he was born in february. (they tell age by looking at the teeth. i knew you could age horses that way, but i had no idea it worked for cats.)
since i didn't know the day, i figured i would just pick a day. and he really is a sweetie, so today seemed like a good choice. so i made a lovely dinner of catfish for the three of us (i swear, it didn't occur to me to use it for his birthday until _after_ i bought it). theirs was baked and garnished with avocado, tomato, cat grass, and just a pinch of catnip:

(hey - presentation is _important_)
(and i skipped the catgrass, and substituted lime juice for the catnip).
it seemed to be appreciated.

(ok, it is a trifle sad that i planned my valentine's day around my cats - but it was a treat for them, and it amused me... and right now fred is curled up on my chest with his head against my cheek, purring - so i'm not doing so badly.)
